Deirdre O’Connor

Nurse

Dee has over 25 years nursing experience and has worked with Dr Hennessy for 15 years. Dee is more than happy to assist with any questions or concerns you may have.

Joe qualified as a dentist from Trinity College Dublin in 2008, obtaining a first Class Honours degree and winning the Sheldon Friel Prize for the overall highest grade in his final exams. He then worked for a year in the Dublin Dental University Hospital as a House Surgeon before moving to work in private practice in Dublin for a further 18 months. Joe then moved to England where he worked for a year as a Senior House Officer in Maxillofacial Surgery in Chichester, West Sussex. To continue his career development he then worked for 6 months as a Community Dentist in Shewsbury, Shropshire.

 

In 2012, Joe returned to Trinity College to complete a three-year orthodontic training programme. In 2015, he attained a Clinical Doctorate in Orthodontics from Trinity College and completed his membership exams at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Fellowship Exams at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. 

 

Joe enjoys all aspects of orthodontics and has carried out published research involving treatment with Invisalign aligners. He has also lectured internationally about Invisalign treatment. He is a member of the Orthodontic Society of Ireland and the World Federation of Orthodontists. He is on the Editor Board of  the International Journal of Aligner Orthodontics.

Joe is an Orthodontic Supervisor in Dublin Dental University Hospital and a member of the

Board of the Facility of Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He is an examiner for the  

RCSI fellowship exams.

Aslam qualified as a dentist from the prestigious Trinity College Dublin in 2014 obtaining his Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree with Honours. He was appointed as a house surgeon straight after graduating at the Dublin Dental University Hospital. He then gained his postgraduate dental fellowships from 2 Royal Colleges of surgeons in England and Ireland in 2015.

​

He then moved to the UK to embark on an 8-year journey to complete his higher speciality training. Aslam completed his dental core training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, working in Mid-Essex University Hospitals and Nottingham University Hospitals.

​

He went on to complete a three-year full-time specialist orthodontic training program in London at the world-renowned Eastman Dental Institute (University College London). During this period, he obtained a Master of Clinical Dentistry degree in Orthodontics from the University College London achieving a distinction for his research thesis and subsequently went on to complete his Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Aslam then went on to do his higher consultancy training at the world-renowned Royal London Hospital and East Kent University Hospitals. He successfully completed his Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in 2022 and was awarded Fellowship of Dental Surgery.

​

Aslam was appointed as a Consultant in the HSE recently and he maintains private practice commitments in a number of practices in Dublin and London. He has always been actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Aslam is an active researcher; he has keen interest in carrying out research and has published widely in peer reviewed journals. He has presented widely in national and international conferences and meetings.

He has particular interest in treating complex malocclusions such as orthognathic (jaw) surgery and multidisciplinary type cases.

He is currently a member of the British Orthodontic Society and the Orthodontic Society of Ireland and is a past secretary of the British Orthodontic Society’s Training Grades Group.

Leah qualified as a dentist with an honours degree from Trinity College Dublin in 2014. 

​

She worked in private practice for one year in Donegal before returning to the Dublin Dental University Hospital for a year to work as a Senior House Officer. During this time, she obtained a Diploma in Primary Care Dentistry and completed her membership examinations, both with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. 

​

Following this, Leah moved to England to gain additional hospital training by taking up a one-year position as a Senior House Officer in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Nottingham. To further her development in paediatric dentistry, Leah worked in the HSE Community Dental Service in Kildare where she gained invaluable experience managing dental development. 

​

Leah subsequently returned to the Dublin Dental University Hospital in 2020 to complete her three-year full-time specialist training in Orthodontics. On completion of her training, she was awarded first class honours in her Clinical Doctorate in Orthodontics from Trinity College Dublin and was awarded her Membership in Orthodontics qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons in England. 

​

Leah enjoys attending national and international courses to keep her skills up to date and is a member of the Orthodontic Society of Ireland.

  • All treatments include a removable and, where appropriate, a fixed retainer at the end of treatment.

  • All treatments are eligible for 20% tax refund.

Consultation €50

 

A consultation will include a comprehensive orthodontic examination.

We advise all patients to continue attending their General Dental Practitioner while undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Prior to the commencement of treatment clinical photographs, orthodontic impressions and radiographs may be taken.

Fixed Appliances

Fixed appliances (braces) remain the most popular type of orthodontic appliance.

They now come in a wide range of types including metal and ceramic (tooth-colored).

Clear aligner therapy (Invisalign)
 
From €5500

 

Clear Aligners are removable devices that are used to straighten teeth. They are very aesthetic. Contrary to what some advertisements suggest, they are not suitable for every patient. Dr Hennessy has completed research on this appliance and has lectured internationally about it. He will be happy to let you know whether this treatment is suitable for you and ensure you get the best possible results.

Rapid Maxillary Expansion

This device is used where the upper teeth are biting inside the lower teeth (crossbite). It is fixed to teeth to allow the arch to be expanded. It achieves its best results when used in patients under 15 years. It can be used in conjunction with orthognathic surgery (see below) in older patients

Reverse pull face mask

This device is used in patients where the upper jaw has not grown as much as the lower jaw. Ideally it used in patients 8-10 years old. 

Functional appliance

A functional appliance is a type of brace to correct a "Class II" problem; Class II problems are a group of bite problems where the top teeth bite in front of the lower teeth. Functional appliances may be either fixed or removable. Removable functional appliances are most popular. The more common removable functional appliances are made from separate upper and lower parts, which interlock placing the lower jaw in a more advanced position.

Often used to correct simple problems, especially in patients who still have primary (baby) teeth in place.

Orthognathtic Surgery
 

An operation to reposition either the upper, lower, or both jaws, in individuals who have a large discrepancy between the size of the jaws in relation to each other, or in whom the jaws are abnormally positioned in relation to the base of skull.
